Summer 2024 Scholar Program - Department Projects

The Free the Facts (FtF) Scholar Program allows rising seniors, recent college graduates, and graduate students to develop and implement a project that serves the organization’s educational and leadership development objectives.

About the 2024 Scholar Program - Department Projects

In contrast to internship responsibilities, Scholar Projects are largely self-directed and expected to produce a tangible product that our organization can fold into (or add to) its current programmatic offerings. This year, the Executive Office, Communications and Marketing, and Policy teams at Free the Facts are looking to bring on Scholars to tackle the following projects -

  • Executive Office - AI Capabilities for Free the Facts: To ensure the organization stays up to date on the latest technologies, the Executive Office is seeking a scholar to investigate AI capabilities applicable to nonprofits and integrate them into our projects and workflows. The Scholar will be responsible for identifying areas of the organization that could benefit from AI and assist with the selection of new technologies and services.

By the end of the project, the Scholar will possess a thorough understanding of departmental roles and responsibilities and of the AI tool landscape as it relates to the nonprofit space.

  • Communications & Marketing - TikTok Launch: Free the Facts is looking for Scholars with an interest in social media and video production to help us launch our TikTok account this summer. In this role, Scholars will have the opportunity to influence FtF's TikTok strategy by developing content and reporting on traffic trends.

Scholars will receive hands-on experience in brand strategy, attend a number of DC events, and produce engaging videos for college students across the nation.

  • Policy - Materials Management & Updates: Free the Facts has developed a robust set of policy materials, including presentations that are used to teach students from across the country and widely accessible policy content online. The team is currently seeking a Scholar to produce a number of materials that will help us keep this information up-to-date and accurate. The Scholar will work through all of our policy materials, identifying stats/information that need to be updated regularly, sources for that information, and a timeline for implementing updates. Then, they will create a number of documents that will guide the Policy Department through updating our policy materials and set a framework for updating policy materials that are developed in the future.

The Scholar will walk away with a much stronger understanding of our key policy issues and of the sources, government and otherwise, that we use for our policy materials.

Program Details

FtF's Scholar Program will run from June 4th through August 2nd. However, Scholars may have the opportunity to extend their tenure with FtF into the fall.

Scholars will work approximately 40 hours a week, typically Monday through Friday, at a stipend of $2,250 a month. Housing is also provided for the duration of the summer.

As of February, FtF Scholars will work out of the Washington, D.C. HQ office, collaborating with members of FtF’s senior leadership to refine their proposal and then implement their project. Should circumstances change, accepted Scholars will work remotely.

During their tenure, Scholars also have access to our professional network and exclusive programming and events that are only available to individuals participating in FtF’s leadership programs.

Application Process & Evaluation

The Summer 2024 Scholar Program is only open to Ambassadors in All-Star Standing. Applications are judged based on the candidate's interest in the project and demonstrated ability to successfully execute the project. In addition to their application, project proposal, and resume, applicants must provide two letters of recommendation. Candidates may apply to multiple Scholar projects, but must submit individual applications for each project.

Applications for Summer 2024 will close on April 3rd.
